Kitchenaid 30-Inch Model# 720-0745

The Bottom Line

This is a big, shiny, full feature gas grill with the KitchenAid name stamped right in the middle of the lid. You get a pair of halogen lights, a powerful infrared side, searing burner, a infrared rotisserie burner (though you have to pay extra for the rotisserie kit), and complete stainless steel construction. I mean everything on this grill is stainless steel, well except for the plastic knobs. This grill will get attention and certainly divert people from better quality, similar priced products, and that's a shame. First of all, KitchenAid has absolutely nothing to do with this grill and the stainless is low grade.

Pros

  • Heavy duty stainless steel rod cooking grates
  • Complete stainless steel construction

Cons

  • Comes with rotisserie burner, but rotisserie kit sold separately
  • Not designed, made, or supported by KitchenAid
  • Many stainless parts are very thin and all but the burners are low grade
  • Low heat output for the size

Guide Review - Kitchenaid 30-Inch 4-Burner Gas Grill Model# 720-0745

In the 2011 Lowe's gas grill product guide, directly above this grill, "For generations KitchenAid has helped craft delicious meals and great times with loved ones by building products around quality, craftsmanship, versatile technology, and timeless style. KitchenAid grills are designed for superb cooking performance and built with high grade materials." This statement is probably true. Unfortunately, it has nothing to do with this grill.

The Lowe's version of the KitchenAid grill is imported by the same company that imports gas grills for KitchenAid, but this one is not designed or supported by KitchenAid and it comes from a completely different factory. What does KitchenAid have to do with this grill? They got a check so someone else could use their name.

Of course the KitchenAid name is going to help this gas grill sell, as will the complete stainless steel construction. Every part of this grill is shiny from the back panel to the firebox. For people who don't know the truth about stainless steel will think that this grill is going to last forever and always be shiny and new looking. It won't.

As for the grill itself, this 4-burner unit pumps out 40,000 BTU's under 581 square inches of primary grilling area. This is low, very low. One reason it is low is because of the shape and stainless steel in the firebox. This makes this grill more efficient, not this efficient however. Part of the reason that the heat output is this low is to protect the appearance of the stainless steel, which will discolor if the grill gets too hot.

The other features include a 15,000 BTU infrared searing side burner. This lets you sear steaks quickly before you put it on the main grill to finish off. Of course you will have to sear those steaks one at a time. The problem with these burners is that if you heat them up and then let some kind of liquid drip on them, they can crack. Of course, I can't think a situation where that might happen.

This grill is a lot of flash and not a lot of grill.
