The Bottom Line

New for 2010 Weber is introducing a dressed up version of its popular 22.5 inch charcoal kettle. This grill features a more stable cart with wheels making it easier to move around and more stable while in use. You also get side tables and a roll top lid. All these features make this a more convenient version of the world's most popular charcoal grill. The question is, at around $300, is this the best choice in a Weber grill? For $50 more you could get either the much larger Weber 26 3/4" One-Touch Gold Charcoal Grill or the popular Weber Performer with its larger table and gas assist charcoal starter.

Guide Review - Weber 22 1/2" One-Touch Platinum Charcoal Grill

The Weber Charcoal Grill has been amongst the world's most popular pieces of outdoor cooking equipment for decades. In some parts of the world this grill means barbecue. Now Weber has introduced the full feature 22 1/2 inch One-Touch Platinum unit after many years. With a host of extras to make this grill more convenient, Weber has made a Kettle for the person willing to spend more for a complete package. The Platinum grill has two side tables so you finally have a close place to set a plate down. You also get a more stable, four legged cart with two wheels to make it easier to move and less likely to get tipped over. There is also a roll top (called tuck away by Weber) lid so you don't have to lift the lid off the grill. You simply roll it back.

The Weber kettle is one of the worlds most popular charcoal grills. The quality construction means it is a grill that will last and the superior engineering gives you a level of temperature control you don't find in most other charcoal grill (particularly those cheap units everyone seems to be selling these days). In addition this kettle can, if you know what you are doing, be used as a smoker, making this, like other Weber Kettles, a very versatile grill.

My main issue with this charcoal grill is its price. Not that it isn't priced in line with other Weber Products but that there are other, good Weber Charcoal Grills close in price that offer advantages. This grill comes in at around $300. For around $350 you can choose from either the much larger 26 3/4 inch One-Touch Gold or the Weber Performer that features a larger table surface and gas assisted charcoal lighting. Personally I would spend the extra money and get a grill that was either more convenient (Performer) or much larger (26 3/4 inch).

Before you run out and buy this charcoal grill I suggest you take a look at the Weber 26 3/4" One-Touch Gold Charcoal Grill and the Weber Performer. Prices are similar but the advantages are very different.
